EVO

Washington (DC), October 3, 2024 -- It has come to our attention that some private companies and organizations are using the IPMVP® trademark to promote measurement and verification training and certification programs. This unauthorized use of our valued trademark for purely commercial and mercantile activities can potentially mislead the industry, governments, and other institutions that rely on the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol® in their programs, regulations, and legislation. The IPMVP® is a symbol of our commitment to excellence, and its misuse undermines the integrity of our work.

The IPMVP® and its full name, International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol®, are trademarks of Efficiency Valuation Organization®. Nominative fair use of the said trademarks is permitted when referring to EVO’s goods and services associated with the marks. However, any claims, insinuations, or indirect allusions to train and certify individuals to the IPMVP outside EVO-recognized or approved programs constitute a non-authorized use of the IPMVP trademark.

With the revenues generated by its legitimate training and certification programs, EVO ensures the maintenance and future development and adaption of the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol. To continue pursuing this role and mission initiated in 2001, EVO maintains three permanent committees with an extensive pool of M&V experts worldwide.

IPMVP Committee: Oversees the maintenance and development of the IPMVP Core Concepts. This committee oversees the work of 9 subcommittees working on developing IPMVP application guides that complement the Core Concepts by addressing hot and current issues and challenges arising worldwide. Over 100 volunteers contribute to the work of the IPMVP Committee and sub-committees.

Training Committee: Oversees the maintenance of the M&V Fundamentals and IPMVP training program and advanced M&V, thematic training, and EVO webinars and master classes. The committee also establishes rules for instructors' accreditation and maintains quality control and accreditation renewals for instructors. EVO maintains a pool of over 25 qualified instructors offering training in multiple languages.

IEEFP Committee: Focuses on energy efficiency financing by maintaining the IEEFP and related training programs. The IEEFP committee also bridges the technical measurement and verification concepts established in the IPMVP with the global decarbonization agenda, climate finance, and other environmental issues. This committee promotes discussions among international representatives to identify common barriers to financing energy efficiency and renewable energy implementation and positions the IPMVP and IEEFP as the middle ground between top-bottom and bottom-top approaches.

Misusing our brand, trademarks, and copyrighted material undermines our capacity to pursue our mission and erodes the valuable work of these committees. This potentially impacts the legitimate users of the IPMVP Core Concepts and other related application guides due to consequent distraction and confusion within the industry.

EVO's recognized M&V training programs are developed, vetted, and approved by EVO's Training Committee. M&V certification programs, most notably the M&V competency testing exams, are reviewed regularly and approved by EVO's Certification Committee in consultation with the Training and IPMVP Committees.
